Introduction

The remote emergency care series of first aid training is specially designed with the great outdoors in mind. It is particularly suited to people who work or play in remote outdoor areas, such as, forestry workers, national park wardens, cross country pony trekking guides, mountain guides, mountain leaders, rock climbing leaders, kayaking instructors, walking groups, scout leaders. The course focuses on all the traditional first aid skills but with the emphasis on the fact that you could be 6 to 8 hours waiting for help to arrive and not 10 minutes as in urban first aid emergencies. With this in mind we spend a lot on time on dealing with the long term issue, i.e. sustaining life over a longer period, splinting, moving spinal injured patients, basics of mountain rescue and survival, warmth shelter etc.

All our instructors are wilderness emergency medical technicians and experts in their particular field. All are currently serving members of Mountain Rescue Teams,on 24 hour call, 365 days per year. They bring all of this experience to the courses creating scenarios that are based on real life emergencies/rescues. All scenarios are run out of doors to give a real life feel to the scenario and also to give candidates an idea of how cold and uncomfortable it is to be injured in a remote location.
